Audible is the leading download platform for audio books. Audible maintains an exclusive worldwide partnership with Apple, who also offers the full spectrum of audio books in their iTunes Store. Other benefits include the compatibility of all iPods with the Audible file format, which was especially developed for audio books.
Customers download audio content from www.audible.de to either their PC or Mac. The audio files can then be transferred to mobile devices such as MP3 players, Smartphones and PDAs. Audio content downloaded from Audible can also be played directly on the PC/ Mac or can be burnt on CD. The Audible Air service also allows audio books and magazines to be downloaded straight to mobile phones, thereby bypassing the PC.
In May 2009, the Audible GmbH, based in Berlin, was acquired by Audible Inc., an Amazon.com Inc. subsidiary (NASDAQ: AMZN).
