Marketing is done through the company’s online presence (B2C) as well as through online cooperation with operators of other websites (B2B2C).

Holtzbrinck Ventures founded the company itself, making shareholders of the management. After the company attained market dominance in Europe, Holtzbrinck Networks bought these shares with take-over bids. This made the company to a central part of Holtzbrinck’s New Media strategy.

Holtzbrinck Ventures still holds a minority share in the company.
